Amplify Women 2021
October 1st marks the start of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to speak up about domestic violence and build awareness around this devastating, but all too common issue.
According to a recent report from the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual & Domestic Violence, 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence in their lives.
Of the women we serve at Fresh Start, 69% reported experiencing domestic violence in the last year, a 19% increase from the year prior with the surge linked to and exacerbated by the ongoing pandemic.
While these statistics are compelling, a more concerning truth remains: the majority of domestic violence cases remain unreported. Many women feel that they do not have access to the resources and support necessary to leave dangerous situations, while others simply lack the awareness to identify intimate partner violence or abuse. Others still need to be reminded that they do not deserve to be abused, that any violence committed against them is wrong.
This month and every month, Fresh Start Women’s Foundation provides essential education and support to women in our community who experience domestic violence.
Throughout October, in recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we will continue to share information on this urgent issue, honor the stories of survivors, and promote ways for you to become an advocate for women who experience domestic violence.
We invite you to partner with us in raising awareness and support for women in our community.
