FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Phoenix, AZ – The Fresh Start Women’s Foundation is pleased to announce their receipt of a grant totaling $149,000 from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust. This grant extends across a three-year period with $74,000 being awarded during the first year of funding.

“Fresh Start is thrilled to receive this grant from The Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust,” says President Susan Berman. “These much-needed dollars will support our computer training program which is designed to provide our clients with in-depth computer literacy services.”

The computer literacy program teaches women computer skills from ranging from basic to advanced skillsets, in order to enable women to use technology for employment opportunities, career readiness, and education. So far in 2017, Fresh Start has seen 496 computer literacy courses attended, which includes introductory courses on Microsoft products such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Classes are available to any woman who would like computer training.

“During her career, Nina Mason Pulliam shared her financial success and business leadership skills with many charities.  She had a keen awareness of challenges that face our community and would take great pride in the outstanding work being done by organizations like Fresh Start Women’s Foundation,” said Trustee Chair Carol Schilling.  “Through her Trust, we continue to build on her legacy, which clearly reflects her heart for philanthropy.”

Fresh Start’s programs and services are designed to promote the financial self-sufficiency, career and educational advancement, and physical and emotional well being of women and their families. Grounded in a strengths-based empowerment model, Fresh Start equips women with the tools and resources they need to overcome barriers and achieve their goals, whether that is going back to school, starting their own business, landing their dream job, or anything in between.

The Women’s Resource Center is a safe haven for 5,000 adult women in need annually. Fresh Start offers a wide breadth of programs and services including: career readiness, family law support, social work services, domestic violence support, scholarships, mentoring, computer skills training, professional clothing, and financial coaching, as well as job placement services through the onsite Goodwill Career Center.

The grant to Fresh Start Women’s foundation represents one of 42 awarded to organizations by the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust during the second of two grant cycles this year. Since the Trust began its grant making in 1998, it has awarded more than $292 million to 963 organizations in its home states of Arizona and Indiana.
