FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Phoenix, AZ) – To continue to provide financial empowerment services to survivors of domestic violence in the Valley, The Allstate Foundation has donated a $50,000 grant to Fresh Start Women’s Foundation. Fresh Start is grateful to have received these vital funds which will help programs and services reach even more women who are struggling with domestic violence and financial abuse.

The grant funds the Purple Purse Moving Ahead Through Financial Empowerment curriculum, which is designed to help survivors understand financial abuse, protect their money and assets, and establish financial stability.

“Through funding from the Allstate Foundation we have been able to offer this curriculum to our clients for the past four years,” Fresh Start’s Social Work and Special Projects Senior Manager Rebecca Christ said. “Our clients have had an overwhelming response to the course and have walked away with an immense understanding of financial concepts and practices. The Allstate Foundation’s support allows us to take our programs to the next level and create more awareness around financial abuse and financial empowerment for women.”

Allstate’s curriculum enhances Fresh Start’s existing resources, while focusing on the specific needs of women who may be fleeing their situation, looking to get back on their feet or take control of their financial futures.  The continued support and partnership between Fresh Start and Allstate has allowed for greater community impact and outreach.

The Purple Purse Moving Ahead Through Financial Empowerment curriculum is taught by local Allstate agent and owner, Julie Jakubek MBA. Julie has worked closely with the Fresh Start Social Work Department to develop the curriculum and find strategies to best deliver it to clients. The collaboration between both groups has made the program even more impactful to clients.

Allstate Foundation Purple Purse is a public education and fundraising program aimed at raising awareness of the prevalence of financial abuse in domestic violence cases and the need for resources to help survivors.

The Fresh Start Women’s Resource Center offers a wide breadth of programs and services, including career readiness, family law support, social work services, domestic violence support, scholarships, mentoring, computer skills training, professional clothing, and financial coaching, as well as job placement services through the onsite E-Learning Center.
