Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization. We rely on the talent and time donated by members of our community to help us accomplish our mission.
At Fresh Start, we train our volunteers to believe in the women at the center, regardless of their path; to treat them respectfully, and to model professional relationships. Clients of Fresh Start learn from our volunteers and then go out to impact the community.
Volunteers must be 18 years old and attend a volunteer orientation at Fresh Start.
How You Can Make A Difference
Fresh Start’s Resale Boutique, Treasures Within is all volunteer led. Volunteers are accepting donations, sorting through the donations, hanging them up in the shop, and helping clients find professional clothing. Volunteers should be able to lift up to 35 lbs, sort clothes by size, and keep the space clean for all the patrons.
Our Career Coaches meet with client 1:1 for brief 20-30 minute sessions. Each time the volunteer comes in, they will meet with new clients. The volunteer is expected to quickly triage the client to determine her greatest needs and help her find her next steps/action items. Career Coaches should have HR or hiring experience.
Fresh Start has two different mentoring programs. There is a 1:1 mentoring program where you are paired with a mentee for a full year. There is also a peer mentoring program where you are paired with up to three clients for 6 months.
Mentors should possess empathic listening skills, be non-judgmental, and demonstrate personal stability. Mentors should also have a positive and realistic belief in what people can do when they are motivated and should have demonstrated success in their personal/professional life.
Our four foundation series classes are: Assertive Communication, Developing Boundaries, Goal Setting, and Stress Relief. We believe every woman can benefit from taking these four classes and they are the foundation of everything else that we offer. Volunteers are needed to help facilitate these classes. Volunteers are expected to have presentation experience and expertise in the areas taught.
Our Computer Literacy classes cover everything from basic windows through advanced Excel. We offer these classes nearly every day and always need volunteers to help facilitate them. Volunteers for these classes are required to have presentation experience and expertise in the areas taught.
The Client Services team oversee the front desk at Fresh Start. As a volunteer on this team, you will be meeting every woman who comes into Fresh Start. The client services team is the face of Fresh Start. Volunteers should be kind and courteous but also able to maintain boundaries. Volunteers should also be willing to learn about all of the Fresh Start services.
